Frequently Asked Questions

  • I offer in-person sessions in my home office, virtual sessions through a HIPAA compliant platform or phone sessions.  Clients can choose what works best for them or do a hybrid mix of any of the three.

  • Sessions are most beneficial when done consistently. Generally, this means once weekly 55 minute sessions.  This gives you as the client, the opportunity to continually implement new tools and skills into your daily life and for us to quickly address any issues that have come up since the last session.  As your therapy progresses, you may want to go to every other week and eventually to monthly maintenance but this will be discussed in your consultation call or during intake and then revisited as we go.

  • Great question!  In my opinion, all the therapeutic skill, training and education in the world won't matter if I don't prioritize rapport and connection with my clients.  Even though you're looking for someone who knows what they're doing and is skilled at doing it, you won't want to be vulnerable and do the difficult work of improving your mental and emotional well-being if you don't feel like your therapist "gets" you.  My approach is first and foremost, relational...this is your time, your money and your life.  I take that very seriously and want you to feel like each session there was a takeaway you can make note of, reflect on and even apply to some area of your life.

  • My caseload is primarily adult individuals but I do work with couples and teens.  While I will work with younger kids, I find that for minors under 12, therapy is most effective when done in-person.  I provide therapy to clients from all walks of life without discrimination to gender, color, sexuality or religious beliefs.  For me, the heart of therapy is understanding the human experience and that's universal no matter what you look like or where you came from.

  • I ask for 24 hours notice to avoid having to charge the session fee for a late cancel or no-show.  Each client is allowed one "free pass" at no charge, no questions asked.  After that I kindly request you give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session.

  • From my website you can directly book a free consultation call or session.  You can also email me an inquiry at stacey@balancecounselingandwellness.com or fill out the contact form on my website.  If we are a good fit and you decide to schedule, your intake forms, release of information and good faith estimate will be sent to you through my Electronic Health Record called Jane and you will complete and return the forms electronically as well as safely save your payment information.  I know life is busy and the process of finding a therapist and booking sessions should not add to your daily stressors!

  • If you are the parent of a minor client, you do have access to their records, including case notes.  However, I caution parents to allow for as much privacy and confidentiality as possible for your child's sessions.  If they want to discuss something with you, they will, but pushing or expecting a full session summary is not generally helpful to their overall goals.  Rest assured if there is something significant I feel you need to be made aware of, I will let the child know that I do plan to share but also give them the opportunity to speak with the parent first.  For spouses and partners or parents of adult children, you do not have access to confidential information about the client.  It is their choice to share if they so choose, but I will not breach confidentiality if you ask, call or email about a session.  Limits to confidentiality for licensed mental health providers in Texas include: If someone discloses they are a danger to themselves, a danger to others or if the client suspects or discloses abuse of a child or elderly person.  In those cases, I have a duty to report to the proper authorities.
